Technical Writer – Atlassian

Technical writer

Looking for a company that sees documentation as an asset, not an afterthought?
Missing the inspiration that comes from working alongside smart and enthusiastic writers?
Seeking a creative outlet for your documentation ideas?

Atlassian is the place for you! We’re looking for a technical writer to join our talented technical writing team in our San Francisco office.
What you’ll do

You’ll own and curate a portfolio of product documentation, ensuring quality, usability, completeness and timeliness. You’ll use and explore the products to understand how they work, liaise with our savvy developers to document new features, identify areas for improvement in the existing documentation, and lend your proofreading expertise to edit various other kinds of written material. This is no ordinary technical writing gig — we believe in innovation and creativity in our product documentation, and we want your ideas!
Required experience

You’ll ideally have at least three years of technical writing experience, preferably in the software industry. Experience working with developer documentation, such as API docs, developer tutorials, SDK guides, etc, is also required.
Key skills

You love writing, love technology, love combining the two.
You believe in making a difference with documentation.

You write quickly and accurately.
You enjoy building a rapport with your stakeholders.
You know screenshots are useful.
You know screenshots suck.
Your feedback on the user interface leads to simpler documentation.
You use context-sensitive help.
You know how this sentence could certainly be made more concise.
You are forward-looking — trying new technologies and open source solutions.
You’ve tried documentation on a wiki and have ideas on how it could be done better.
You know Agile development has strengths, but demands discipline.
You constantly seek end-user feedback to improve your documentation.
You love working with passionate technical writers who are innovators in documentation.
