OppenheimerFunds, an asset management firm in NYC, seeks an experienced New York-based writer. The ideal candidate will have a passion for financial news and investing content, excellent judgment, and a talent for writing catchy headlines. This writer will need to be able to work independently, possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with multiple internal partners. It’s imperative that candidates be adept at translating complex investing ideas and trends to a lay audience. He or she should also have a knack for writing compelling content, while tailoring different voices for different audiences.
This candidate should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, as well as utilize any downtime proactively, seeking out story ideas. The writer will actively participate in group discussions on investing topics and our firm’s thought leadership. S/he will contribute story and content ideas in our brainstorming meetings, balancing reader and audience appeal with what drives traffic to our site. Depth of financial knowledge should be matched by the highest levels of creativity and enthusiasm.
A strong knowledge of retirement products, regulations, etc. is desired.
Conceptualize and strategize creative themes as well as create and edit content for our marketing and thought leadership pieces, including reports, inserts, newsletters, etc.
In addition to diverse writing functions, this individual will represent the Editorial Services team in discussions with partners and senior management
Requirements/Competencies for Success:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an editorial/investing environment
Strong marketing focus and ability to write and revamp sales literature
A solid grounding in the basic principles of packaging, editing and writing for print and the Web
Ability to help develop and execute tables, charts, graphics, and other visual ways to convey investing insights
Financial services experience preferred; specifically mutual funds, retirement and college savings
Excellent time management/detail orientation; this person will need to handle multiple projects with sometimes shifting deadlines, and must be well-organized and self-structured
Polished personal style, pleasant outgoing personality; ability to be a flexible team player
