Senior Writer – Human Rights Campaign

The Senior Writer works within the Communications Department and the President’s office to research, draft, write and edit a variety of reports, factsheets, speeches, opinion pieces, web content, news releases and other materials. The Senior Writer reports directly to the Director of Communications and works with senior members of the organization and its volunteers on specific assignments.

Position Responsibilities

Drafting major speeches for senior staff members and volunteers.
Produce other written material whether for the web or print publications, including HRC’s quarterly Equality magazine.
Create writings, including press releases, media advisories, talking points, letters to the editor and various other communication priorities. Should have a keen sense of writing for various audiences in different medias.
Must be able to develop messages and talking points based on quantitative and qualitative message research. Research may be conducted independently and/or with colleagues.
Review materials for structure, accuracy, organizational consistency and appropriateness of content.
Other duties as assigned.
